My journey began in 2017 when we moved to Mossel Bay in the Western Cape, South Africa. My son Magnus Stone was well underway in his knife making career and because he made fixed blades I decided to make folders. Thinking that Slip Joints should be a piece of cake, 5 years later I am still trying to perfect the recipe! I do only Slip Joints and Friction Folders.
My style is unique in that it is very simple for the most part with no visible hardware on the handle. This came about when I had to teach myself and peening the knife together and then adding handle slabs with a super epoxy was the way I did it. I have come to the conclusion that I may be the only folder maker in the world to do it this way! It has however resulted in quite a following of people that appreciates my style so for the time being I’m sticking to it.
My philosophy is that no matter what your style is, in a handmade knife fit and finish of quality materials is king!
